Saw XI: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know (2024)

Stretching the limits of sequels, even for a genre known for its copious amounts of follow-ups, Saw XI is officially on the way with plenty of terrifying news on the Saw sequel. 2023's Saw X was a return to what made the first Saw so well-received compared to its sequels, and it reinvigorated the tired franchise. The most recent Saw movie was a relatively grounded thriller focusing on John Kramer, something likely to continue in Saw XI.

Set between Saw and Saw 2, Saw X eschewed much of what made entries like Saw 3D so critically panned. It told John Kramer’s story, making him a sympathetic character once again instead of a trap-creating boogeyman who exists only as a name and reputation (as has been the case since his death in Saw 3). The success of Saw X was not very surprising, but now a continuation is in the works that presses the franchise even further into the double digits.

Tobin Bell Confirms His Return As John Kramer

Though news has been relatively scant since the upcoming sequel was pushed back a full year, the latest update confirms that Tobin Bell will return for Saw XI. Making a name for himself as the supposedly moralistic Jigsaw, Bell reprised his role in Saw X to great fanfare, and he is prepared to do it again in XI. While speaking in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Bell expressed his ongoing enthusiasm for the role (a part he's played for 20 years), saying:

It’s all in the writing. It’s not all one guy outside the screen door with sidelight on him. I’m really excited about continuing to develop him. John Kramer is not done. There’s more to learn.

The New Saw Movie Is Coming Late 2025

In a move that doesn't happen often, Lionsgate not only announced that Saw XI was happening, but the studio also established a firm release date at the same time. Releasing a little less than a year after the premiere of Saw X, Saw XI was expected to hit theaters on September 27th, 2024. However, that plan changed in April 2024 and Saw XI was delayed an entire year to September 26th, 2025.

Tobin Bell Will Return As John Kramer

The mid-credits scene in Saw X hinted at who could star in the next Saw movie, and it has since been confirmed that Tobin Bell will reprise his role as John Kramer, A.K.A Jigsaw. At this juncture, it's unclear if he'll appear in flashback or if the next Saw film will once again be set before his death. Costas Mandylor returned as Mark Hoffman, one of Kramer’s apprentices, and Shawnee Smith reprised her role as Amanda for Saw X, so it’s possible that both could appear in Saw XI.

Story Details Are Unclear For Saw XI

The next Saw movie could take a similar approach to Saw X, with the Saw XI story set far earlier in the franchise than movies like Spiral . However, the Saw XI plot could also go the direct sequel route and pick things up in the timeline after the events of Spiral. This would mean John Kramer is dead, and the plot would focus on one or several of his apprentices - something possibly set up by the Saw X post-credits scene. However, Tobin Bell's confirmed return as Kramer means he will appear somehow.

It seems likelier that the Saw XI plot will be another prequel-like installment, although the specifics of when it could be set remain a mystery. One thing that’s guaranteed is that, when Jigsaw returns, his new traps in Saw XI will once again be far deadlier than anything audiences have seen so far.
